Walking football tournament hosted at Mazuma Mobile Stadium

15 May 2024

On Monday 13 May, the Mazuma Mobile Stadium hosted a walking football tournament, involving 10 teams from across the UK.

Organised by Morecambe Walking Football Club, the tournament brought together teams from up and down the UK to compete on the pitch at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium. With help on the day from Morecambe FC Community Sports, the tournament was a success, with spectators welcomed throughout the day to watch the action unfold.

Two pools of five teams saw a full day of fixtures, with teams eventually earning their places in separate Community Shield and plate tournaments.

Glaswegian outfit Pollok United WF were the eventual winners of the Community Shield, after defeating Nottingham Forest WF in a penalty shootout after the final resulted in a stalemate. Morecambe FC co-chairman Rod Taylor was present to award the side, who have also recently been crowned Scottish national champions, with their shield and medals.

"This was a fantastic event, and it was great to receive such complimentary feedback from all the teams involved.

"An amazing day was had by all, and it was great to get into the Local Choice Suite after the action to appreciate the social side of the day after the competition.

"Morecambe Walking Football Club were the driving force behind the event and it was a privilege to be involved with the day. At Community Sports, we can't wait for next year!"
